Living Wage 2024
Did You Know ARU is a Proud Living Wage Employer?
Since November 2017, Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) has been an accredited Living Wage Employer, a status we’re deeply proud of. From Monday, November 18, 2024, all ARU Temps employees working within ARU will receive a minimum pay rate of £12.60 per hour. This commitment reflects our values, ensuring that everyone who contributes to ARU is paid fairly for their hard work.

What is the Real Living Wage?
The real Living Wage is a voluntary wage rate that’s based on the actual cost of living, unlike the government’s minimum rates. Over 15,000 UK employers have chosen to adopt this rate because they believe that a fair day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay. At £12.60 per hour, the Living Wage is higher than the government minimum because it’s calculated to cover essential living costs.

Why Does This Matter?
The National Living Wage and National Minimum Wage, both set by the government and adjusted every April, represent the legal minimum rates that employers must pay. In contrast, the real Living Wage is independently calculated to reflect what people need to support themselves and their families. While paying this wage is voluntary, ARU believes it’s the right thing to do, which is why we proudly meet the standards of accreditation.

What Does Accreditation Mean?
As a Living Wage Employer, ARU is required to review and implement any new Living Wage rates within six months of each annual update in November. This commitment helps us ensure that our staff are supported in managing the real costs of daily life.
