Summer is approaching!

As the summer break approaches, we want to wish all ARU students a fantastic time off.  Whether you're planning to travel, relax at home or embark on new adventures, we hope you have an unforgettable summer filled with joy and laughter.  Whilst the break from study is a time for relaxation and fun, it's also an excellent opportunity to enhance your skills and boost employability.  Here are some tips to make the most of your summer:

"It’s all about the money, money, money..."
Consider using the holiday to earn some money, gain valuable work experience, and enhance your CV. Register online with ARU Temps to ensure you hear about all the jobs we have over the summer and those starting when you return in September, both within university departments and local employers.  Getting a job can also help to build your network of contacts and find new friends.

"We're still here for you"
The Employability Service are still here over the summer so book an appointment online with your Employability & Careers Advisers to ensure your CV and supporting statement are the best they can be.  Getting your application documents in top shape now will set you up for success when applying for future opportunities. Writtle students email [email protected] and [email protected].

"Home is where the heart is"
For those of you going home for the summer, consider finding work locally.  You can utilise a recruiter to help, look at local adverts, or approach businesses directly.  Summer jobs are a great opportunity to make connections in your community.

"Every day is a school day"
Consider doing some LinkedIn Learning courses to develop skills and keep your mind active.  Choose topics that really interest you, don't worry too much about how they relate to your future career.  All learning is valuable and contributes to your personal and professional growth.

"Do it for them"
If you aren't keen on getting paid work, why not look into the volunteering opportunities in your area? The Student's Union can help - look at current opportunities and register your interest in volunteering online here.

The most important thing to achieve this summer is having fun!  It's a time to recharge and rejuvenate before the start of the new academic year so meet with friends, get active, connect with family, enjoy the outdoors, and make the very most of your break.

We can't wait to hear all about your summer adventures when you return in September.  Until then, have a fantastic break, stay safe, and enjoy every moment.
