Special Interest Group Report Writing Internship (Climate Change Group)


Job Description

Pay rate: £10.23p/h
Location: Remote working for Essex County Council
Hours: Full-time
Term: 8 weeks
Start date: Jan 2021

The role

Supporting the climate change commission to summarise the evidence and recommendations developed by each of the Commission’s Special Interest Group into an overarching and coherent report to be presented to Essex County Council.  This report will be an independent, publicly accessible document.  The Essex County Council Cabinet will consider the report and will announce their response in due course.  

The successful candidate will be responsible for collating and coordinating a substantial amount of data, generated across all areas of the Council, and summarising it in a coherent and easily understandable format

A proportion of the Climate Commission work will be to lock-in some of the climate benefits caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, such as increased level of working from home, switch from car to active travel (walking and cycling) etc.

Key duties include:

Data assembly and analysis       
Desk based research      
Powerpoint presentation

Person spec

Graduated or currently studying towards a relevant degree and familiar with data science
An interest in climate change 
Advanced research, data analysis, report writing and presentation skills
Comfortable with numbers and data management, analysis and presentation
Relevant experience such as previous work, volunteering or academics
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficient Microsoft office user with specific skills in PowerPoint
The ability to learn fast and problem solve
Confidence working independently
