Sustainable Travel Planning Internship


Job Description

Pay rate: £10.23 p/h
Location: Remote working for Essex County Council
Hours: Full-time
Term: 8 weeks

The role

This project supports the Sustainable Travel Planning team to assist with delivering the targets as set out within the Sustainable Transport Business Plan. 

Since Covid struck employers have had to re-think the way their staff travel to and from their workplace, if they’re even travelling at all. This is an opportunity to get more people thinking about active and sustainable travel, promoting a healthier lifestyle and reducing the traffic on our already busy roads. At the same time as supporting them back to the workplace to boost our economy. 

Working alongside colleagues in the wider Highways & Transportation team to address some of the challenges of people using sustainable travel modes, encouraging the use of emergency active travel measures put in place after lockdown, engaging with new and existing employers to promote sustainable travel planning across the county.  

Key duties include:

Desk based research
Data analysis
Producing written reports outlining findings 
Presenting information to key stakeholders
Communicating with members of the public

Person spec

Graduated or currently studying towards a relevant degree
A genuine interest in stainable travel planning
Relevant experience such as previous work, volunteering or academics
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficient Microsoft office user with specific skills in PowerPoint
The ability to learn fast and problem solve
Confidence working independently 
Advanced research, data analysis, report writing and presentation skills.
Adept at building rapport with stakeholders
Excellent organisational skills
