Job Description

Student Services are looking to recruit Peer Wellbeing Mentors to support positive wellbeing and community on ARU campuses by delivering online and face to face support and activities to students as directed by the staff in the Counselling & Wellbeing Service
 
Dates: September 2021 until July 2022
Times: 
  • Proposed Term Time (subject to change) One 4 hour weekday shift per week (generally between 12pm – 7pm), with one additional hour per week for other activities. Occasional optional extra hours for ad-hoc daytime and weekend events and activities
  • Proposed out of Term Time (subject to change) One 2 hour weekday shift per week (generally between 12pm – 7pm), with one additional hour per week for other activities. Occasional optional extra hours for ad-hoc daytime and weekend events and activities
These rotas also cover the Bank Holidays and University closed days (Christmas & Easter)
Location: Chelmsford campus
Pay rate: £9.50 per hour
 
Principal Accountabilities:

1. To work on a rota to deliver a blend of online and face to face (covid safe) activities which support student wellbeing

2. Assist with the promotion of student wellbeing activities and community engagement, taking part when appropriate.

3. Collaborate with Course Reps to promote awareness of ARU’s wellbeing offer, and support student engagement in, and co-creation of mental health awareness events and activities throughout the academic year.  

4. Collaborate with Personal Development Tutor Community Leads to support the promotion and delivery of wellbeing activities at a Faculty/School level, including via PDT seminar sessions.  

5. To collaborate with Residential Services to support the promotion and delivery of wellbeing activities in targeted at, but not limited to, to ARU students living on or near campus. 

6. Offer support and guidance when a student may be expressing distress or uncertainty and have the knowledge to support them to access relevant support services.

7. Complete a report following each duty shift, ensuring any concerns are identified and escalated appropriately.

8. To interact with students during wellbeing focussed groups and activities, and also attending and engaging other events and activities run by the University and Students’ Union and offering support to students who are anxious about joining in with group activities.  

9. Adhere to all of our confidentiality guidelines and privacy notice (GDPR) and other relevant to protocols and procedures. 
 
10. In situations involving concerns for a student’s wellbeing, to assist and take direction from our Student Wellbeing Mentor Coordinator, Counselling and Wellbeing staff, Security and Residential Services management. 
 
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
  • Being a current ARU registered student
  • A range of GCSEs at A-C grade, including English and Maths.
  • Experience of dealing with difficult, sensitive, or unexpected situations
  • Understanding of customer care
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to problem solve. 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • IT skills, including social media skills
  • Team working
