Internship Title: Student Ambassador Engagement 
Location: Remote, but with options to work on campus with the mentor when restrictions allow
Duration: 8 weeks
Number of hours: PT - 20 Hours per week
Start Date: ASAP
Pay Rate: £9.50 per hour

Brief Job Description/responsibilities:


  •  Liaising with Student Ambassador Coordinator to identify new ways to recruit and train student ambassadors, specifically focusing on BAME, Care Leavers and SEND students.
  • · Developing and updating training content and materials to be delivered to new student ambassadors in the 2021/22 academic year

  • Work with the Student Ambassador Coordinator to launch our new ambassador portal in HEAT which will include handling data.

  • To on occasion support other relevant duties assigned by the Student Ambassador Coordinator.

  • To conclude the internship by delivering a project plan to the Schools and Colleges Engagement team that would be implemented in 2021/22 focused on the recruitment and training of BAME and SEND student ambassadors

  • Providing an insight into the Student Ambassador journey and suggest improvements to be made to further develop our students’ skills for employment

Person Specification:
  • · Minimum of 1 academic year experience as a Student Ambassador at ARU

    · IT literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office, Canva and PowerPoint

    · Enthusiasm and desire to develop professional skills

    · Proven ability to use initiative and judgement to resolve problems independently and through team working

    · Experience working in a customer facing environment

    · Inclusive and supportive of others

    · Understanding and appreciating the importance of data protection and confidentiality

    · Ability to work for deadlines

    · Experience public speaking in front of groups

    · Ability to work unsupervised and on own initiative

    · Good organisational and time management skill

    · Desirable: Experience using data management systems

    · Desirable: A passion for widening participation and previous experience working with either BAME or SEND students.

Learning Outcomes:

    - Skills development in designing content that is engaging and inclusive.

    - Increased ability to tailor materials for the recruitment of minority groups, specifically into student ambassador roles.

    - Ability to demonstrate the outcomes of research with the aim of making recommendations for action.

    - Improved project planning abilities.

    - Skills development in time management, independent working and meeting deadlines.

    - Ability to formally present findings in a professional work-based environment.

    - Increased awareness of data protection and data handling procedures.

    - Increased awareness of widening participation agenda in Higher Education

    - Increased knowledge and awareness of Corporate Marketing at ARU  - At the end of this project, we would like the student to present a proposal with three activities to target, recruit and train BAME, Care Leavers and SEND students to become student ambassadors. - To increase the recruitment of of BAME, SEND and Care Leaver ambassadors by 20%. - This project proposal will shape future ambassador recruitment for the foreseeable future.

The internship is particularly suitable for UG students.
