Mechanical Technician

Pay rate: £12.82ph (+10.5% shift allowance for unsociable hours)
Location: Bar Hill, Cambridge
Hours: Full time (shift work)
Term: Temp (with possibility of permanent employment for the right candidate)
Start date: ASAP

Our client are specialists in sophisticated, fabricated gas and liquid control systems, working with high tech industries such as Semiconductor, Photovoltaic, Pharmaceutical, Aerospace and Energy offering reliable, cost effective and quality solutions. 

Providing their clients with expertise from project concept stage through to design, fabrication, installation and commissioning including facility, process, mechanical, power and controls, they are currently seeking to recruit Mechanical Technicians for their Bar Hill based operation.

The role

The Mechanical Technician is responsible for applying mechanical skills in various areas such  as mechanical assembly and pipe preparation.  Duties include:

  • To comprehensively read and interpret technical/engineering drawings;
  • To follow manufacturing/quality procedures and standards;
  • To assemble small bore tubing and associated mechanical components;
  • Complete mechanical assembly and pipe preparation tasks in a clean room environment;
  • Leak detection - Vacuum, Stress test & Pressure (training will be provided);
  • Be willing to undertake work onsite.

Person spec

  • Graduate from a relevant degree e.g. Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience of working in clean room protocol, assembly, testing and inspection of equipment and knowledge of technical drawings is beneficial;
  • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail, a high level of dexterity and capable of work to precision tolerances;
  • Competency in the use of hand tools and measuring equipment including Vernier, calipers, pipe cutters and benders;
  • Able to follow clear and precise procedures/instructions;
  • Practical training will be given therefore candidates must be willing to learn, develop and be open to new working practices;
  • Good communication and team skills are essential;
  • Good timekeeping;
  • Flexibility to work overtime when required;
