Job Description

The Race Equality Advocates play a key and high-profile role within the university to bring to fruition our institution's strategic commitment to advance race equality. By working to diversify the curriculum and nurturing Black, Asian and minority ethnic students’ sense of belonging at ARU, they will action aims designed to improve educational outcomes and student experience across marginalised ethnicities. The Advocates will be working in partnership with their faculties through collaboration with the newly hired Faculty Race Equality Leads to deliver projects tailored to the needs of their peers.

Start Date: 12th September 2022 until 30th June 2023
Hours: Part-time & Flexible - 6 hours per week (excluding Christmas & Easter break)
Rate of pay: £9.90 per hour
Location: Primarily online via Teams but with occasional face-to-face events.

For each faculty, we will have the following roles available: 
 
AHSS
2x Race Equality Advocate (Diversification of the Curriculum)
2x Race Equality Advocate (Sense of Belonging)

B&L 
2x Race Equality Advocate (Diversification of the Curriculum)
2x Race Equality Advocate (Sense of Belonging)

HEMS

2x Race Equality Advocate (Diversification of the Curriculum)
2x Race Equality Advocate (Sense of Belonging)

S&E 
2x Race Equality Advocate (Diversification of the Curriculum)
2x Race Equality Advocate (Sense of Belonging)
 
Duties:
  1. To organise online and in-person events, CPD sessions, activities, and discussion that offer meaningful and challenging explorations of whiteness, privilege, structural racism, microaggressions, ally ship etc. for students/staff. 
  2.  To write articles, produce audio-visual materials and social media posts about race, racism, and race equality.
  3. To facilitate dialogue with appropriate faculty colleagues and support Anglia Learning and Teaching to diversify curricula.
  4. To participate in a reverse-mentoring scheme with senior stakeholders for these stakeholders to gain an understanding of exclusionary factors that impact belonging.
  5. To build relationships with Black, Asian and minority ethnic students, existing and new networks of representation to promote the work of the Advocates and develop ideas for change..
  6. To promote race equality and be role models for other Black, Asian and minority ethnic students.
  7. To support other relevant ARU initiatives as required by providing their insight, expertise or support.
  8. To comply with GDPR requirements in all working practices as appropriate. Take personal responsibility for all personal data within own working environment.
  9. Such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may be required.

Requirements: 
1. Applicants must be a student at the time of application until at least December 2022. 
2. Applicants must be a member of the faculty for which they apply to become an advocate
