Huxley Bertram Engineering Limited is a leading designer and manufacturer of special purpose machines and bespoke automation systems.

Equipment is sold into many high-tech industries such as petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, packaging, automotive, medical, printing and nuclear fuels. The client base ranges from universities and early-stage businesses to blue-chip companies, including such major firms as Pfizer, AstraZeneca, GSK, DS Smith, UKHSA and many more

Much of the equipment is customised solutions, and client requirements vary from research and development projects to complete production equipment. Applications include turnkey production cells, automated test equipment, automated assembly, automated materials handling, labelling and packaging services. The machines comprise technologies such as PLCs, robots, vision systems, pick and place modules, hydraulics, pneumatic and servo control. Project values start from a few thousand pounds for a concept study rising to over a million pounds for fully automated production cells. 

Huxley Bertram’s head office is based in Waterbeach, near Cambridge in the UK, and surrounded by excellent road and rail links.
 
The role
  • Assisting to improve the labour resource information management within Huxley Bertram 
  • Assessment of what has been tried and done previously
  • Definition of what improvement is required (Phase 1 – Minimal Viable definition; and Phase 2 – additional future improvements)
  • Investigation into capabilities of the online external tool, ClickUp
  • Configuration of the minimal viable system within ClickUp 
Person spec
  • Current ARU student studying a relevant course e.g. Manufacturing Information Systems, Engineering or possibly general Business Studies
  •  A curiosity and interest in using new technology platforms

At the end of the internship the student will be able to demonstrate:
  1. Interpreting user requirements across a number of personnel and departments
  2.  Iterative development (i.e. experimenting to a minimal viable version, then more)  of an IT solution for business collaboration
  3. Knowledge of the Task Management platform, ClickUp - https://clickup.com/
