Are you passionate about supporting young people and promoting access to higher education? We’re looking for a motivated intern to assist with the planning and delivery of outreach initiatives aimed at Year 9-10 white working-class boys from low progression neighbourhoods. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in education, event planning, and student engagement while making a real impact!
✅ Event Planning & Delivery
Assist in organising and delivering two in-school sessions per school and one large on-campus event.
Engage with students, providing education and careers guidance to build their confidence in progressing to higher education.
Support ARU’s commitment to targeted interventions for disadvantaged white males.
✅ Project Monitoring & Budgeting
Track and monitor a small project budget, ensuring resources are used effectively.
Collect and analyse evaluation data to measure the impact of interventions.
✅ Workshop Development & Outreach
Create workshop materials for use in outreach activities, including ARU and Make Happen events.
Deliver the ‘Student Life’ presentation to local schools and colleges, showcasing the university experience and encouraging aspirations.
Represent ARU at careers fairs and parents’ evenings to engage with prospective students and their families.
✅ Training & Development
Attend training on ARU and Make Happen safeguarding processes to ensure best practices when working with young people.
A strong interest in supporting young people from diverse backgrounds 🌍
Experience delivering or assisting with education projects, activities, or events 🏫
Strong presentation and public speaking skills 🎤
Excellent organisational and communication skills ✍️
Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 💻
Confidence in working both independently and as part of a team 🤝
Hands-on experience in project planning and event delivery.
Knowledge of safeguarding processes when working with young people.
Experience in budget tracking and financial monitoring.
Increased confidence in presenting and engaging with young audiences.
Stronger networking and relationship-building skills with educational institutions.
Understanding of evaluation processes, data collection, and report writing.
A progressive outreach project targeting 25-50 Year 9-10 students, measuring attitude change and confidence levels regarding higher education.
A presentation summarising internship outcomes and skill development, delivered to the Access and Participation Plan Steering Group (APSG).
Additional resources and workshop materials for future outreach projects.
Strengthened relationships with ARU and Make Happen priority schools/colleges through ongoing support at events
