Purpose of the Role / Role Overview:
Graduate Site Managers are responsible for assisting the Site Manager with the day to day running and record keeping of the project on site. They are required to keep the project within the timescale and budget and manage any delays or problems encountered on site. Also involved in the role is the management of quality control, health & safety checks and inspections as well as compliance.
Specific Duties / Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Site Manager in all the following:
General
- To deliver the project safely eliminating risks of harm for all stakeholders.
- To deliver the project in the agreed timescales using the agreed specifications and resources.
- Provide high level customer service and ensure compliance to all company’s rules and regulations.
- Compliance with A2O branding requirements.
- Manage daily on-site operations including, but not limited to, productivity, H&S, Quality, Supply Chain and directly employed labour.
- Monitor all company activities and ensure compliance with company procedures and policies.
- Develop and maintain good relationships with the client and subcontractors to resolve any issues that arise.
Project Management
- Completion of a weekly ‘look ahead’ programme with activity drop lines for discussion with Project Manager or client.
- Updating contract and target programme on regular basis with the Project Manager or Programme Manager
- Maintain the project programme ensuring regular reviews. Communicate all changes to PM and Commercial Team.
- Report to the PM on all site activities including but not limited to Labour, Time, Quality and Progress. Reporting to be in accordance with company procedures.
- Ensure Daywork is recorded daily and provide copies to commercial team. Ensure that Dayworks is authorised by commercial team and the scope is clear.
- Coordination and supervision of all works on site ensuring necessary benchmarks and hold-points are recorded
- Prepare for the fortnightly team meetings and ensure that you understand all aspects of the meeting and have completed any actions.
- Set up both the office and site files in line with the company guidance in order to maintain a high standard of records and general efficiency.
Procurement
- Call off/ Procure all materials in an effective manner in line with company procurement policy ensuring deliveries can be planned and best value provided. Ensure that there isn’t any delay to the programmed works through material shortage or wrongly delivered items.
- Ensure material deliveries are properly documented and checked against the order and specification
- Ensure that the storage and use of materials is done correctly and site can evidence stock levels and consumption.
- Ensure materials are stored correctly to prevent loss, theft or damage
Health and Safety
- Take responsibility for ensuring all operatives are competent and have the correct training and experience to carry out the work.
- Ensuring that any operations carried out on site are properly risk assessed and correctly resourced.
- Ensure that the site provides sufficient welfare and facilities to comply with CDM and any Construction phase Health and Safety plan.
- Ensure that all legislative paperwork is completed prior to starting on site and is regularly reviewed during the progress of the work. (This includes, but is not limited, to the Construction Phase Health & Safety Plan, Risk assessments and Method Statements, Fire risk Assessments, Temporary Works Assessments, etc)
- Keep accurate records and ensure they are retuned to the Head office as agreed.
- Keep all necessary Safety and Environmental Records maintained in accordance with Policy.
- Record all near miss, RAMs reviews and toolbox talks to compliment SHEQ strategy.
- Follow all Health and Safety protocols and ensure they reviewed regularly using the Construction Phase Plan, RAMS, COSHH etc.
- Induction and mentoring of all new operatives on site.
- Ensure all accidents are recorded and if required RIDDOR is completed.
- Maintain site establishment and traffic management is in line with guidance of Local Authority and Health and Safety guidance
- Maintain Site has a Fire Strategy in place including any neighbouring properties.
Quality Management
- Maintaining quality control procedures and contemporaneous records are kept accordance with Quality plan and BRE requirements
- Writing reports and keeping on top of company paperwork including completion of all Weekly returns and Health and safety records
- Working with the Design Team to ensure all drawings are current and maintain a file on site.
- Ensure all activities on site are carried out in line with Company procedures, standards and Industry ‘Best Practice’.
- Ensure that the site has followed the BRE guidance and can be audited.
- Ensure on site Protocols are in place to address and record Non-conformities from any External Audits. This includes notifying the relevant trade and commercial team of any issues and costs.

- Ensure that Subcontractors are aware of any issues that require attention and associated costs for remedial works if necessary.
Commercial Awareness
- Ensure any changes in the tendered scope of works and identified to QS/ PM to provide relevant cost information.
- Ensuring the Recording of Variations, management of change control and Compensation events is properly carried out.
- Provision of information in s/c /supplier disputes and appropriate capture and review.
- Work with surveyors to ensure compliance of Agency staff (Signed Daywork sheets, etc)
- Understand SOW and associated times and budgets.
- Ensure that all Daywork is agreed with QS prior to commencing and all records provided.
- Ensure you have a blank order for all trades detailing scope of work.
Client and supply chain relationships
- Ensure a positive company image at all times in delivery of projects to maximise the opportunities for repeat business
- Report any complaints received from the client or client team to the Project Manager / Senior Programme Manager or Managing Director along with any action taken
- Ensure a Good Supply Chain Management culture is encouraged.
- Completion of Subcontractor performance reviews
Organisational duties
- Work with Project Manager to ensure that the team is adequately resourced.
- Conduct subcontractor meetings and promote a team spirit.
- Mentor, coach, support team members.
- Monitor training needs and liaise with Human Resources Department /SHEQ team to deliver these
- Assist the Pre-Construction department as required with pre-tender information and attendance at interviews
At all times
- To always act in a manner which promotes A2O to its stakeholders and to not allow by act or omission anything that would cause the company financial harm or physical harm to any of its operatives and stakeholders.
