Pay Rate: £13.45 per hour
Hours: Average 3–7 hours per week (more hours available depending on engagement with the role and extra hours available during Welcome Week, Open Days etc)
Eligibility: Current ARU students only
Job Purpose:
- To champion positive student wellbeing to all the ARU student community.
- To promote ARU’s wellbeing support available to aid its students.
- To deliver wellbeing awareness stands on campus each month on relevant topics.
- To support students in joining and trying ARU clubs, societies and faculty events to extend their support network.
- Cambridge & Chelmsford only: To deliver a once-a-week Wellbeing Hangout for students to connect and get wellbeing support from their peers, be available early evening to deliver this e.g. 16:00 – 19:00.
Principal Accountabilities:
- To connect with your peers in a variety of interactive ways to champion the support available by ARUs Wellbeing and Counselling service and inform your peers of how to access the support.
- To plan, prepare and host as a team, a wellbeing awareness stand on campus once or twice a month on relevant wellbeing topics to help inform and support your peers: e.g. alcohol awareness, drug use, mental health, suicide prevention, non-smoking day, alcohol awareness, stress awareness etc.
- To create a range of written and social media material which promotes positive wellbeing to your peers through newsletter articles, blogs, website, social media material etc
- Cambridge & Chelmsford only: Offer a once-a-week Wellbeing Hangout that facilitates a warm, non-judgemental, inclusive, safe space. Help contribute to the sense of community at ARU by providing a listening ear and encouraging student connection for students who maybe struggling with their mental health and or making friends.
- To host promotional stands and deliver presentations during ARU Welcome Weeks (September & January) and on ad-hoc occasions through the academic year to promote ARU’s Wellbeing Offer.
- In situations involving concerns for a student’s wellbeing be able to confidently report the concern following ARU Cause for Concern Procedure.
- Log your work in a timely manner each week in the Teams channel to ensure timesheets can be approved and your workload is recorded.
- Adhere to all of our confidentiality guidelines and privacy notice (GDPR) and other relevant to protocols and procedures. Complete training provided via ARU Temps related to this: Customer Service, GDPR, Prevent and Diversity Training within 1 month of commencing the role.
- The initial training program (scheduled for between 7 – 11 September 2026) is compulsory to attend. Also, compulsory to attend is the ongoing training and monthly supervision, known as Reflective Practise Sessions and team meetings.
Person Specification:
- Current ARU student
- Experience of working with people in a supporting role
- Experience of participating in group activities
- Confident at presenting and talking to others
- Experience of promoting things to others
- An understanding of mental health and personal wellbeing
- Awareness of wellbeing support on offer at ARU/locally
- Awareness of the challenges students face that could affect mental health
- Friendly, approachable, and non-judgemental attitude
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to work and collaborate with colleagues in a team
- IT skills, including social media
Training:
You must be able to attend the compulsory training, scheduled for 7th - 11th September 2026.
