We are expanding our pool of trained catering assistants to fill weekly rotas during peak times in service on our Chelmsford campus for the 25/26 academic year.
Job Title: Catering Assistant
Rate of pay: £13.45 per hour
Location: Chelmsford campus - The Central
Job Role: To assist the Catering Manager and team with the provision of food, beverage and hospitality services. This role is open to students and none-students!
Duties include:
- Prepare simple food items.
- Wash and clean catering equipment and utensils, and clean restaurant and coffee bar areas according to schedules.
- Serve food and beverages in the restaurant, outlets, venues and other designated areas.
- Operate cash tills at point of sale.
- Transport, deliver and store food, beverages and associated catering items according to the Catering Manager’s instructions.
- Ensure that correct clean protective clothing is worn at all times.
- Ensure that all hygiene and safety regulations are observed and maintained at all times.
- Open/close cafes ensuring keys are secured at the end of service.
- Assist the Supervisor/Manager in routine tasks and perform these tasks in their absence.
Hours: Shift times will vary each week - shifts will be offered up to fill weekly rotas. Please note there may be some weeks you won't work any hours. Shift examples: 07:30 - 15:30, 08:00 - 16:00, 11:30 - 15:30
Requirements:
- Good customer service skills
- A willingness to learn and undertake training
- Would consider someone with no previous experience wanting to learn all aspects of a busy catering service
- Able to work as part of a team
- Friendly and customer focussed
- Experience of food service in a similar environment would be beneficial
- Basic food preparation and till work would be beneficial
- Understanding of health and safety issues would be beneficial
- Must be available for training!
