ARU Summer Internship Scheme 2025: Marketing & Outreach Intern

Pay rate: £12.60 per hour
Location: Rene Court, Coldhams Lane, Cambridge, CB1 3EW
Hours: Full time – 37 hours per week
Term: 10 weeks
Start date: June

The Centre for Computing History is an educational charity and museum dedicated to preserving and exploring the history and impact of computing and celebrating the key role of Cambridge in this amazing story. Through interactive exhibits, workshops, and events, we inspire curiosity and understanding about the role technology has played in shaping our world.

The role
We’re looking for a creative and motivated Marketing & Outreach Intern to help shape and implement a social media and communications strategy for the museum this summer. The key focus of the role will be:
  • Developing a targeted marketing, social media and communications plan to reach a specific audience.
  • Targeting low-income families in Cambridge to encourage their participation in a programme of six free workshops taking place over the school summer holidays. 
  • Supporting the Learning Team to run and evaluate these workshops.
  • Building relationships with families and ensuring a positive experience. 
Person spec
  • Current ARU student from a relevant undergraduate course such as in Marketing, English Language and Communication, English, Digital Marketing, Education, Digital Media Production, Liberal Arts, or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft engaging content.
  • Experience with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn) and an understanding of best practices.
  • Passion for community outreach and ensuring inclusivity.
  • An interest in education, technology, and computing history.
  • Organised, proactive, and able to work independently.
  • Able to access the work location (CB1 3 EW)
Learning outcomes
At the end of the internship the successful intern should be able to demonstrate:
  1. Applied experience in digital marketing, communications, and audience engagement within a cultural and educational environment.
  2. Development of strategic and technical skills in social media management, content creation, event promotion, and community engagement.
  3. Direct involvement in a community outreach initiative, contributing to the delivery and evaluation of a museum education and learning programme.
