    • Sunday 27th June - Thursday 2nd July 2026 

We are seeking a diverse range of student ambassadors from a variety of course areas to support our Summer Experience Programmes, to reflect the student body at ARU.

Job Purpose:

We are looking for student ambassadors who can help support the delivery of the ARU Summer Experience that is running in June/July 2026. This is a residential stay for Sixth Form or College students (Year 12 / Year 1 of study), at our Chelmsford and Cambridge Campuses. The aim of the project is to present a taste of university life, what it is like to study at degree level, as well as highlighting what ARU has to offer.

Within this role, you will be asked to support and supervise a group of students throughout their stay on the ARU campuses, along with other mentors. You will be living in halls of residence with your group and supporting others on the academic programme. You will also work alongside members of the Schools and Colleges Team in promoting and ensuring the successful execution of this project. You will positively represent ARU, promoting the university as a higher education destination of choice.

Duties of a Summer Experience Mentor Post:

  1. To support the delivery and execution of activities for the ARU Summer Experience Programme as instructed on a rota system (both the academic and social programme)
  2. Residential overnight stay(s) and daytime responsibility for a flat of students
  3. To support and supervise a group of students and ensure their safe movement across campus (for classes and extra-curricular activities on and off-campus, prepared by the Schools and Colleges Team)
  4. Maintain personal punctual timekeeping and that of the participants to ensure timely arrival at scheduled events
  5. Provide a welcoming atmosphere, ensuring all participants feel included and supported during the programme
  6. To answer questions related to university life and guide participating students throughout their stay, leading to the promotion of ARU as a higher education destination of choice and allowing access to equal opportunity for higher education
  7. To facilitate campus tours
  8. Adhere to the Summer Experience Mentor code of conduct
  9. See that Summer School participants adhere to their code of conduct
  10. Liaise effectively and appropriately with other Summer Experience mentors, and the Schools and Colleges Engagement Team
  11. Any other duties as may be required to assist with the successful operation of summer schools.

Additional information

Please note that if you apply to work on the Summer Experience Programme, you are required to be available for the whole duration of the programme dates, as listed below, as well as the training dates specified:

Cambridge Campus Dates: Sunday 27th June - Thursday 2nd July 2026

Successful candidates will be required to attend:

  • A mandatory briefing online dates to be confirmed
  • The compulsory training and set-up: Saturday 27th June 2026

All training dates are a mandatory requirement of the Summer Experience Mentor position. Training will be paid.

Pay & Subsistence

This role will be paid at £13.45 per hour. Hours of work will vary, but all mentors will receive scheduled hours and breaks. Summer Experience Mentors will have accommodation and all meals provided.
