Internship Title: Reach for the Stars Intern (Schools and Colleges Team)
Location: x1 based at ARU Chelmsford. Remote working during the planning phase, with face-to-face event delivery. There will be an expectation to travel across Essex Region during delivery phase when visiting schools.
Duration: x6 Weeks, starting on the week commencing 18th May 2026
Number of hours: Up to x20 hours a week, with event delivery weeks weighing more.
Pay: £13.94 per hour
Job purpose: ARU’s Reach for the Stars project is aimed at key stage 2 primary school children in the East of England. The attainment and aspiration raising programme aims to introduce students to university life, igniting their ambitions, improve their literacy skills and helping them aim high by 'reaching for the stars’ throughout their educational journey. We are hiring 1 intern to take the lead on the delivery and evaluation of the project. This is not only an opportunity to make an outstanding contribution to others, but also yourself – working under supervision from a Schools and Colleges Engagement Officer, you’ll be able to grow your skills by taking on duties such as event management, lesson planning, and evaluation.
Job Description/responsibilities:
- To facilitate and lead on the delivery of the Reach for the Stars events.
- To deliver in school literacy sessions
- To manage the planning phase of the Reach for the Stars Project, including but not limited to:
- Organising all campus logistics, i.e.: booking rooms
- Liaising with school contacts to manage promotion and booking
- adapting all required project resources
- Recruiting and supervising ambassadors
- Liaising with relevant internal and external stakeholders
- To lead on the face-to-face event delivery, supported by a small team of student ambassadors.
- To advertise for and recruit student ambassadors to support the running of the event(s).
- To support and shadow on-campus events with Schools and Colleges Engagement Officers to gain delivery experience.
- To liaise effectively with the wider ARU staff team where necessary, and Primary School lead contacts.
- To collect feedback from all events which will be analysed to support a written report that will be presented back to the Schools and Colleges Engagement Team at the end of the internship.

Education/ Qualifications:
Essential
- Currently Studying a degree at ARU
Desirable
- Studying an Education related course
Experience:
Essential
- Experience working with external stakeholders, the public and prospective students
- Experience of supporting and/or delivering face to face events
Desirable
- Experience leading on events
- Experience working with Primary School Children (KS2)
- Experience of working within Primary School settings
- Knowledge of KS2 education
Knowledge/skills:
Essential
- Excellent customer service skills
- IT literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office 360, including Excel
Desirable
- Understanding of Outreach, widening participation and its importance within the H.E Sector
- Understanding what the Schools and Colleges team do and why
- Knowledge of ARU’s Child Protection and risk assessment procedures
