The role
- Supporting R&D projects in the development of products for the packaging industry by formulating plant protein-based resin systems to give desired performance as a barrier coating for fibre-based products (e.g. paper and paperboard). By optimising, for example: barrier properties, mechanical properties, shelf-life, cost
- Undertaking the production of test specimens and conducting testing following internal and external test methods
- Some contribution to customer focussed applications projects, utilising Xampla materials to meet downstream product specifications
- Leveraging understanding of Xampla technology and materials science concepts to design high performance, real-world products
- Working collaboratively within Product Development and Applications Teams
- Designing and undertaking experiments. Collecting, organising and analysing experimental data. Ensuring proper documentation and traceability using internal systems
- Reporting results back to the relevant teams and other internal stakeholders in the form of reports and internal group meetings.
Person spec
- Current ARU student from a relevant undergraduate degree course e.g. forensic science, biomedical science, biology, biomedical engineering, animal science, pharmaceutical science, medical science.
- Experience in a lab setting.
- Good at following SOPs and experimental plans closely, following hygiene procedures and understanding quality control procedures to produce quality products for our customers.
- An enthusiasm for Xampla’s mission of addressing plastic pollution, an interest in sustainability, and a scientific curiosity.
- An individual with a can-do attitude who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the internship the successful intern should be able to demonstrate:
- Experience of delivering experimental plans and/or producing product samples to customer briefs
- Collecting, organising and analysing experimental data
- Report writing and presentation skills
