Job Role: ARU Peterborough Cover Receptionist
Start Date: September 2026
Proposed End Date: January 2027
Location: Peterborough campus
Pay rate: £13.45 per hour
Hours: Monday to Friday: 8:30am - 4.30pm
This advert is for a temp to cover reception shifts for periods of sickness / annual leave / training commitments for the current receptionist.
Job Purpose: To provide exceptional customer service to all visitors and students/staff
Principal Accountabilities:
- Greet and welcome guests as soon as they arrive at the University.
- Direct visitors to the appropriate University resource.
- Answer, screen and forward incoming phone calls.
- Ensure reception area is tidy and presentable, with all necessary stationery and material (e.g. pens, forms and brochures).
- Provide basic and accurate information in-person and via phone/email.
- Liaise with the Estates Team regarding receiving, sorting and distributing daily mail/deliveries.
- Be responsible for the ordering and issue of uniform accessories, e.g. epaulettes, name badges etc.
- Maintain university security by following safety procedures and controlling access via the reception desk (monitor logbook, issue visitor badges).
- Order front office supplies and keep inventory of stock.
- Perform other clerical receptionist duties such as filing, photocopying and scanning
- Process ‘Right to Work’ checks for new staff members
- Liaise with Helpdesk Administrators at other sites to maintain uniformity as far as possible of general policies and procedures.
- Liaise as appropriate with all the faculties across ARU.
Person Specification:
- A range of GCSEs at A-C grade, or equivalent OR vocational qualification at NVQ Level 2 or equivalent
- Experience of working in a customer service environment
- Experience of working with confidential information
- Previous reception and administrative experience gained in a University or similar commercial environment
- Good all-round IT skills including experience of Microsoft Office
- Good communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to prioritise work
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Customer focussed
