Internship Title: Summer School Intern

Location: 1 x Chelmsford based student. Interns will be expected to work both from home and on campus as requested. Working days to be decided upon offer.

Duration: Week commencing 17th February to week commencing 28th July inclusive.

Number of hours: 10 hours a week

Pay: £13.10 p/h

Job purpose:

Two student interns are needed to support the planning and delivery of the ARU Amplify your Summer Residential Experience, which is due to run:

Chelmsford: Saturday 5th - Thursday 10th July, with set-up on Saturday 5th July

 

Whilst working alongside the Schools and Colleges Engagement team and other university staff (communications, faculties, and facilities) within this role you will help develop and deliver communications, activities, and engaging content for the summer school.

You will positively represent Anglia Ruskin and be keen to deliver support and provision of activities to promote ARU as a destination of choice to students who are underrepresented in Higher Education.

Brief Job Description/responsibilities:

  • To support the recruitment, planning, and delivery of our ARU Amplify your Summer Year 12 Summer Experience, which is due to run in July 2025.
  • To lead on the planning and delivery of an interactive and engaging Welcome Event and evening social activities for the ARU Amplify your Summer Experience, under the guidance and supervision of Schools and Colleges Engagement Team Staff.
  • To handle and process application data using V Lookup in Microsoft Excel.
  • Promote ARU as a destination of choice to students on the ‘ARU Amplify Your Summer’ programme. These students will be entering the 2025-26 UCAS cycle. 
  • To ensure the Schools and Colleges Engagement team are providing activities that allow all students equal opportunity to access Higher Education. 
  • To deliver and support provision from the Schools and Colleges Engagement Team that empowers potential and current students. 
  • To support the delivery of the requirements of the Access and Participation Plan and Education Access Plan.
  • Contribute to the evaluation processes of Summer School.

Experience

  • Knowledge of ARU events and experience working at school visits and Open/Applicant Days
  • Experience designing and delivering engaging activities for people from a diverse range of backgrounds
  • Experience working with the public and prospective students
  • Experience leading or assisting on projects
  • Experience organising or assisting the organisation of events
  • Experience using social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and Twitter


Knowledge/Skills

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Understanding of what the Schools and Colleges team do and why
  • Knowledge of ARU’s child protection and risk assessment procedures
  • IT literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint and Canva
  • Ability to prioritise workloads to set, and meet, tight deadlines
