Job Description

Job Title: Doctoral School Administrative Assistant 
 
Job Purpose: To assist with a range of administrative activities relating to postgraduate research (PGR) at ARU.
 
Start Date: January 2025
 
Proposed End Date: 30th April 2025
 
Hours: 24hrs per week - Agile (WFH / Chelmsford or Cambridge Campus for monthly meetings)

Job Title: Doctoral School Administrative Assistant

Job Purpose: Are you passionate about supporting postgraduate research? Join our team at ARU as a Doctoral School Administrative Assistant, where you'll assist with a variety of administrative activities related to postgraduate research (PGR).

Principal Accountabilities:

  1. Monitor shared Doctoral School inboxes, responding to or escalating queries as appropriate.
  2. Assist the PGR Admissions Officer in processing PGR admissions applications and responding to applicant enquiries.
  3. Support the Senior Research Degrees Administrators in preparing for the Postgraduate Research Candidate Progress Sub Committee (PGRCPSC) and processing outcomes electronically.
  4. Perform straightforward data entry tasks in the ASTRA student record system.
  5. Assist in processing Committee outcomes on the PGR Pro progression monitoring system, as required.
  6. Provide assistance to the Doctoral School Team as needed.

Person Specification:

  • Essential Criteria:

    • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
    • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and data protection standards.
  • Desirable Criteria:

    • Previous experience in an administrative role within an educational setting.
    • Familiarity with postgraduate research processes and systems.
    • Experience using student record systems like ASTRA.
