Job Description

Start Date: 12th June 2025

Proposed End Date: 14th September 2025 

Hours: up to 37hrs per week. Monday to Friday with some weekend work - as required by business needs. 
 
Pay Rate: £12.60 per hour
  
This role is open to current ARU students only.
  
Job Purpose: To be a key member of the summer staff. Working closely with the HMOS to ensure smooth running of the summer business and preparation for arrivals in September 2025.
  • To carry out tasks (such as cleaning, making beds, stripping beds, hanging curtains) for preparation in rooms and common areas as allocated by HMOS on regular basis, ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Be the first point of contact for customers and to assist residents by signposting them to useful services and support agencies.
  • To work to the required standards as per Residential Service summer handbook and training
  • Make sure that cleaning agents and equipment are used for the correct purpose and in the correct manner, following COSHH guidelines.
  • Maintain Health and Safety Regulations at all times, including wearing the provided safety equipment (PPE)
  • Ensure that information regarding standards of work which don’t comply with Summer Business handbook are passed to the HMO.
  • Some tasks allocated may involve the removal of refuse and other items to be disposed of, including moving furniture and light gardening.
  • To report any defects relating to repairs and maintenance found in work areas to the HMOS
  • To remove items from one area to another as directed by HMOS
  • To undertake all the induction training and carry out refresher training where necessary.
  • To assist with fire drills and evacuations, as well as helping to carry out weekly fire alarm tests.
  • To assist with monthly read in University accommodation and assist in fire alarm testing.
  • Prepare/ Turnaround and service rooms ready for summer business (including taking new towels/ linen to clients) and new arrivals.
  • Keep accurate records of stock, locations and complete asset registers with replacement Items in halls and houses on and off campus.
 Requirements:
  • Able to complete manual handing and lifting
  • Good, clear written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Team player
  • Understanding of customer service

Person appointed must be available from Wednesday 11th June 2025 to Sunday 14th September 2025

Additional to this role there is a requirement if you live on campus. To partake in duty and out of hours rota * As a Residential Assistant (RA). A minimum of 2 shifts per week must be carried out covering out of office hours in the accommodation, assisting with lock outs, fire alarms and emergency issues/ maintenance. For which half rent will be given.

*Hours worked, are according to the rota which are compiled according to the needs of the business, for this reason there is limited leave and may be granted subject to service needs, but 2 days per week will be included on the rota. All General Assistant hours are worked at standard rate. And half rent for participation of GA role as per rota.
