Internship Title: Business Clinic Coordinator
 
Proposed start date: 11th May 2026
 
Duration: 10 weeks
 
Hours: 20hrs per week

Location: Chelmsford campus

Rate of pay: £13.45ph
 

Duties: Working closely with the Business Clinic Director in establishing a Business Clinic at ARU to support local businesses as well as to support opportunities for student engagement with business, designed to develop student skills and competencies that will help them to find employment following the completion of their degree. 

The Business Clinic Coordinator will play a key role in establishing a socially impactful Business Clinic at ARU. The project directly supports ARU’s Access & Participation Plan (APP) by embedding widening participation principles into community business engagement, creating inclusive employability experiences for underrepresented students, and strengthening the economic ecosystem in the East of England. 

 Bringing the Business Clinic to life:

  • Support the Business Clinic director to actively pursue collaboration with faculty and industry partners to enhance the clinic's impact on partnering organisations as well as student development.
  • Meet with Businesses to triage their business problem and ability of ARU Business Clinic to help them
  • Identify local firms that work with or are interested in engaging to economically disadvantaged students. 

Program Development:

  • Evaluate the current program offering that integrate academic theories with practical business applications.
  •  Working with internal and external stakeholders to create business clinic marketing assets to foster student entrepreneurship and innovation
Inclusive Industry Engagement:
  •  Work with the Business Clinic Director to build partnerships with regional, national and global businesses
  •  Build relationships with regional businesses, charities, social enterprises and community organisations that can offer high quality, socially inclusive project opportunities.
  •  Map employer appetite for working with diverse student groups and identify barriers to participation.
 Developing methods to track and analyse engagement data:
  •  Implement tracking template in the university CRM to monitor business participation among different business types
  •  Implement tracking template in the university CRM to monitor student participation among different demographic types.
  • Ensure reports align with APP frameworks, enabling analysis of gaps in engagement. 

 The planning of the Business Clinic Launch event with a Business and student focus to include a focus on diverse founders:

  •  Organise an event celebrating the launch of the Business Clinic
  •  Include keynote speakers, panel discussions, and workshops that highlight issues of local business
  •  Partner with organisations that support business growth and future skills development to enhance the event's impact
  •  Identify speakers, including entrepreneurs from underrepresented backgrounds.
  •  Create marketing assets for the Business Clinic with accessible language, inclusive imagery and targeted messaging for APP priority groups. 

Student Hackathon:

  •  Organise a hackathon which will take place in Q4 2026
  • Work with the Business Clinic Director to identify business use cases that can be used for the hackathon
  • Work with the Business Clinic Director to manage the relationship with Google on supplying the technology for the hackathon
  • Make recommendations for the Hackathon marketing strategies to better engage economically disadvantaged students so that we make the hackathon as inclusive as possible
Requirements:
  • Strong business relationship building skills
  • Understanding of concepts relating to design, thinking and innovation in a business
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Basic data collection and analysis abilities
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively
  • Interest in social mobility, inclusive business practice or widening participation
  • Attention to detail and problem solving mindset
Learning outcomes:
At the end of the internship the student will be able to:
  •  Develop an understanding of event planning and process management
  • Gain experience in data collection and analysis related to inclusivity.
  • Enhance communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Learn to create reports and recommendations based on research findings.
  • Build confidence in stakeholder engagement, including working with local businesses, external organisations, and diverse student groups.
Project deliverables:
  •  A report analysing the local businesses in Cambridge and Chelmsford that have links to the university and key targets
  • Targeted marketing plan and inclusive design considerations to maximise participation from disadvantaged student groups
  • A CRM template and process guide for monitoring student and business participation by demographic and organisational characteristics.
  •  Recommendations the launch event and execution plan.
  •  A framework for tracking and measuring Business Clinic engagement.
  • Presentation of findings to relevant university stakeholders.
