Job Description

Internship Title: Development of Interactive 3D Neuroanatomy Learning Resources Using Photogrammetry and AI

Job Brief: The intern will contribute to a research-led education innovation project focused on improving neuroanatomy learning and reducing neurophobia through technology-enhanced learning approaches. This project forms part of a wider programme aiming to enhance anatomy education through AI, 3D digital models, and immersive technologies.

Proposed start date: June 2026

Duration: 10 weeks

Hours: 37hrs per week

Location: Chelmsford (potentially some elements of remote working)

Rate of pay: £13.45ph

Duties:
  • Assisting in the development of high-resolution 3D neuroanatomy models using photogrammetry techniques (image capture, processing, and optimisation).
  • Supporting the creation of interactive digital learning resources (e.g., labelled models, quizzes, lesion-localisation tasks) using platforms such as Thing Link and AI-based tools.
  • Contributing to AI-enhanced formative learning workflows, including prompt engineering design for anatomy SBA (single best answer) questions and related feedback.
  • Assisting in pilot testing and usability evaluation of the developed resources with medical students.
  • Supporting data collection and preliminary analysis (e.g., focused-interviews and survey data on usability, engagement, and confidence).
  • Assisting with documentation and dissemination outputs (e.g., teaching materials, conference abstracts, or reports).
Requirements:
  • Current ARU undergraduate medical student (MBChB) or related health/biomedical programme student
  • Interest in anatomy, neuroscience, or medical education
  • Basic digital literacy (e.g., PowerPoint, online tools)
  • Willingness to learn new technologies (e.g., photogrammetry, AI tools)
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • Interest in teaching, education, or academic careers would be beneficial
  • Familiarity with anatomy learning resources or digital tools, for example: good communication skills would be beneficial
Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the internship the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of technology-enhanced learning (TEL) principles in anatomy education, including cognitive load and multimedia learning.
  • Apply photogrammetry and digital techniques/tools to create interactive 3D anatomical resources.
  • Develop and evaluate digital educational content, including formative assessments and AI-supported feedback tools.
  • Reflect on how digital tools can address neurophobia and challenges in learning complex 3D anatomy.
Project deliverables:
  • At least 1–2 fully developed interactive 3D neuroanatomy models (e.g., basal nuclei, thalamus, internal capsule)
  • A prototype web-based learning module integrating:
    • 3D models
    • Labels and annotations
    • Quiz/assessment components
  • A pilot usability evaluation dataset (student feedback survey)
  • A short project report summarising methods, outputs, and recommendations
  • Contribution to conference abstract or internal dissemination output

These outputs will contribute to the development of an open-access ARU neuroanatomy learning repository aligned with widening participation goals and improved access to high-quality anatomy resources.

How to apply: Please click on the apply button and submit a CV and Cover letter as part of your application
