Job Description

Children's Club Instructors

Pay rate: £13.45 per hour
Location: Chelmsford and Braintree
Hours: Part time shifts available Monday- Sunday
Start date: ASAP
Application deadline: 17th June

Do you have the confidence and presence to lead a room of energetic primary school children?

We are seeking strong, confident and reliable instructors to run engaging STEM clubs in a bespoke facility in Chelmsford and primary schools in Braintree.

This role is not just about delivering fun activities – it requires someone with the authority, maturity and presence to take full control of a class of children aged 5–11, who may arrive energetic, excitable, and sometimes challenging (especially at the end of a school day and possibly fuelled by after-school treats!).

You must be comfortable:
✅ Setting firm boundaries
✅ Commanding attention
✅ Maintaining structure throughout the session

Key requirements - please read carefully
⚠️ Punctuality is critical – sessions must start on time, and children will already be waiting
⚠️ You must consistently arrive early to set up and be fully prepared
⚠️ If you’re not a driver, you must be able to access locations by foot or bike
⚠️ This role is not suitable for candidates relying on public transport where delays could occur
⚠️ Drivers should live within a reasonable commuting distance (ideally no more than 8 miles)
⚠️ Late or non-arrivals are not acceptable in this role

Working schedule
There are a range of regular, part-time shifts on offer, including weekends and school holidays:
  • Chelmsford
    Monday – Friday, 15:15 – 16:30
    Saturday & Sunday, 9:00 – 16:00
  • Braintree
    Monday – Thursday, 15:15 – 16:30
What you’ll be doing
  • Delivering structured after-school STEM sessions for children aged 5–11
  • Leading hands-on activities involving engineering, coding, robotics, and technology
  • Following pre-prepared lesson plans (all materials provided)
  • Activities may include:
    • LEGO Robotics
    • Game Design
    • 3D Design (Tinkercad)
    • Engineering Challenges
    • Coding and technology-based tasks
  • Taking full control of the classroom environment from the moment children arrive
  • Leading and coordinate small classes with confidence and authority
  • Managing behaviour firmly, consistently, and positively
  • Keeping children focused, engaged, and on task at all times
  • Maintaining a safe, structured, and productive learning environment
  • Ensuring sessions run smoothly and strictly on time
  • Setting up and packing away all equipment
Person spec
  • Teaching, coaching, youth leadership or other classroom management experience
  • A strong presence and natural authority
  • Confident managing behaviour, including excitable or challenging groups
  • Can command attention quickly and maintain control throughout sessions
  • Calm under pressure but firm with boundaries
  • Highly reliable, organised, and punctual
  • Comfortable speaking clearly and assertively
  • Able to reliably travel to schools and always arrive early
  • Comfortable working independently
  • Basic IT skills
  • DBS check required
To apply: If you are reliable, confident, and able to take control of a classroom while delivering engaging sessions, we would love to hear from you - please apply online with your CV and Cover Letter.
