Gardener Wanted - Essex
Pay rate: £14.00-£15.00 per hour (dependent on experience)
Location: Brentwood, Essex
Hours: 21 hours per week, Monday, Wednesday, Friday preferred.
Term: Temp – during the growing seasons

The role
The Gardener will support and report to the Estate Manager and Property Owner, ensuring grounds are maintained to a high horticultural and aesthetically pleasing standard, of a 60 acre estate comprising of a formal garden, various flower beds, forest and neatly mown fields. Duties include:
- Undertake a full range of grounds maintenance and gardening duties, as instructed by the Estate Manager and Property Owner.
- Take instruction and conduct work to a high standard, demonstrating an ability to be self-motivated and work with diligence.
- Design, source, plant and manage annual and perennial bedding and other flower beds/rock gardens – including irrigation.
- Conduct pest and disease control using integrated pest management techniques as required – this also includes treating weeds, moss, algae, box etc.
- Cut, strim and edge grassed areas, hedges, wisteria etc. using a variety of on-site machinery.
- Blow/clear leaves etc and jet wash hard surfaces, driveways, garden furniture etc.
- Perform formative and regenerative pruning of trees and shrubs throughout the estate and forest.
- Conduct general grounds management tasks.
- Ensure that all tasks are conducted in line with health and safety protocols and risk assessments.
- Report any external, site defects to the Estate Manager.
- Conduct basic maintenance to equipment in your charge and report any major faults to the Estate Manager.
Person spec
ESSENTIAL
- Practical use of hedge trimmers, strimmer’s, mowers, and blowers.
- Previous experience of planting, pruning, horticulture and lawn care.
- A demonstrable ability to establish and sustain good working relationship within a team environment and have the ability and initiative to work alone.
- Aptitude to communicate effectively with colleagues.
- Driver with access to car (site not accessible by public transport)
DESIRABLE
- Previous gardening experience gardening in a grounds maintenance role or setting.
- City and Guilds/NVQ Horticulture stage I and II or equivalent.
- RHS general horticulture or equivalent.
